Berkshire Gateway is a composite painting of my boyhood neighborhood on Round Hill Road  in Great Barrington, Massachuseetts. The apple tree in this painting is on the property next door to my studio and was the site of the one room Seekonk School house. The apple  trees  were planted by the school children back in the 1850's quite possible by my relatives  who attended the school then. The perinal  flower garden  was a garden that was originally on the property of my Grandmother Lorreta  when she lived next door.  The gate open resents a  warm welcome that they  always shared back then.  A Berkshire gateway greeting  for all.

DANNY'S HOUSE

Danny's House is a composite of our neighborhood in honor of my son Dan. I painted his painting in a more primitive style than some of my other paintings . I guess this is influenced by one of my favorite artists, Grandma Moses. The tree in the painting was a tree on our property that was planted by Dan's great, great, great grandfather Daniel Warner in the 1830's. The family barn was from pictures taken many years ago and every family back then had at least one cow and so our one cow is in the painting along with a fishing pole and tire swing. If you look closely you'll find a few trout in the stream. What kid wouldn't want to visit Danny's House and the old country way of our past.

KATIE'S PLACE

I painted Katie's Place in honor of my daughter Katie. In the  painting were the things that she loved so much as a child . Her favorite tree and swing and next to that tree her American Girl doll.  push pedal car just waiting  for Daddy to "Keep pushing all the way home"    The pond in this painting is  a spot  we shared  a warm summer day picnic  lunch  with a barn in our  background just waiting  for another day of summer fun.  When my daughter was very young she would have me read poems by Robert Louis Stevenson over  and over again. His poems brought back  memories  of  what it was like to grow up in the country with a simple life with farms, swings, ponds and hayloft doors. I was inspired to paint a scene for my daughter of  her childhood memories we shared that brought me so much joy.  To my wonderful daughter Kate, Thank You.

The Mahawie Theater located in the town of Great Barrington in the Berkshire Hills of Massachusetts is a very special theater not just for me but I am sure many. I painted the Mahawie on a night Casablanca was playing. Such a romantic movie such a romantic movie theater! Today the theater provides many performances and also at times plays classic movies. A must see while in the Berkshires!

James Weldon Johnson was best known as a civil rights leader, songwriter, poet, novelist and ambassador for the United States, but to my family he was also a friend and neighbor in Great Barrington, Massachusetts. My grandpa , William D. Warner worked doing carpentry on his writing cabin and house . Johnson named his property Five Acre. He told my grandpa his writing cabin that still sits on the banks of Seekonk Brook was one of his favorite places to write. My painting "James Weldon Johnson's Writing Cabin" was truly in honor of a great man and a very kind neighbor and to bring attention to the cause of preserving this historical site.

CAPTAIN TURMAN WHEELER HOUSE

The Capt. Truman Wheeler House is the future home of the The Great Barrington Historical Society. The society bought this historical farm property that once was the home of the Revolutionary War Captain. The Wheelers lived in the house many generations before the society bought the property. I painted my winter rendition of this beautiful New England farm to bring attention to this worth while historical endeavor.
