If there is one place to visit while looking for that Down East feeling it would be Perkins Cove located in Ogunquit Maine. While visiting I wanted to take my daughter to one of the nicest restaurants for both food and surroundings,. I found that restaurant in Perkins Cove called Barnacle Billy's. We sat right at the window looking out on Perkins Cove for the sunset . They were so kind to let me take a picture from their dock so that I could paint the scene later. I did and it brought back wonderful memories of Maine . A few boats were added to the scene including one for "B Billy's" with a lobster on it, and one for my children. Even my dog is in the painting but that is a difficult one to find!

NIGHTWATCH, BRANT POINT LIGHTHOUSE

In 1775 , my great, great, great, great grandfather Gilbert Warner took up the cause for American Independence and went off to fight for the American Colonists. Times were very difficult on Nantucket as blockades were preventing ships form both coming or going to the small Island off the coast of Massachusetts. While it was true many on the Island remained neutral, not all did. Gilbert Warner married Sarah Ellis on October 29. 1775 and died shortly there after at sea. His beloved pregnant wife had a son William Warner born in 1776. The painting Brant Point Nightwatch is for Gilbert Warner as this was the last piece of land he saw and for his wife Sarah Ellis Warner who like many wives of brave Americans moved on in the face of tragedy. Sarah left the Island and the Warner name lived on. The Nightwatch is keeping guard on all those lost souls. Even after all these years they are not forgotten and may they rest in peace.

NUBBLE LIGHTHOUSE

My journey to Nubble Lighthouse actually started in a wonderful gift shop in Wells called Lighthouse Depot. While there I started talking to a woman who told me she was the last lighthouse keeper of Nubble. I didn't know much about this lighthouse and enjoyed her stories of what it was like running a lighthouse. I told her I was an artist and would love to paint this lighthouse and that I would paint it in her honor. I never did catch her name but I painted my Nubble Lighthouse just a bit differently. I painted Nubble over a period of time. Some of these examples are before there were two windows on the second floor and now there was one. There was a metal fence before the white picket fence most are used to today. I painted Nubble Lighthouse this way to represent the changes to the building, the lighthouse industry and the lost way of life so many years ago. If you are in the Southern Maine region stop by beautiful York Beach , Maine. Nubble Lighthouse is just over 200 yards off Cape Nedick Point.

SAKONNET LIGHTHOUSE

Print: $50
Print Size:

Sakonnet Lighthouse is located in Little Compton Rhode Island where my direct decendents settled Rhode Island. The ship is going down the coast towards Long Island and that was the journey they chose leaving Rhode Island for New York around 1776. They must have seen this very lighthouse as they left.

BEACON OF HOPE

Print: $50
Print Size:
12.75"w x 15.75"h

$7.50 shipping per order

In this painting there are two faces hidden one on the lighthouse and one in the cloud to the right of the lighthouse. This represents choices we have in life. If you look at the clouds you will see "wave" clouds. In the Beacon Of Hope the lighthouse represents the inner strength we all have in any personal turbulent time in our lives. Like a storm on the rough seas we can be hit from all sides . However if we have inner strength we carry on through and get through our storms to calm seas.

RUNNING FOREVER FOR YOU

Running Forever For You was the 2010 painting I donated to Sean's Run to raise money for underage drinking awareness. In on of my favorite movie of all time Forsest Gump there is a scene where after Jenny leaves Forest he decides to go for a run. As it turned out not just any he ran as he ran and he ran and ran! He ran till he "he couldn't run any further" as he reached the West coast. So he ran to the other coast. This is the location he turned around when he reached the East coast. On the door it says Forrest loves Jenny. He did and in the movie the running craze in America was born!

ETHEL BELLE

The Ethel Belle was the name of a boat owned by a dear close friend of mine Captain Fred Holzman of Hamton bays Long Island who was more like a father to me than a friend. Fred left the Island , the ocean he loved and his boat and moved to Massachusetts and lived a long life in the Berkshire Hills. Long after Fred left the Island I presented this painting as a gift to the man who taught me so much. I loved hearing his stories of the Ethel Belle and the sea. Thank You Captain Fred.
